CARDIFF

This beach community, sometimes referred to as Cardiff-By-The-Sea, is part of the city of Encinitas and offers a moderate climate, two gorgeous miles of Pacific coastline, a 900-acre ecological reserve, and incredible surfing. This friendly beach town contains quaint shops, a thriving arts community, and a walkable downtown area complete with a community park and plenty of biking opportunities. This area thrives year-round – it’s not unknown to find sunbathers in January. This stretch of coastline boasts sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, and solid swell. At extreme low tide, the reef reveals itself with intriguing tide pools where plants and sea creatures can be observed up close.

CARLSBAD

Also known as “The Village by the Sea,” this affluent seaside resort town occupies a seven-mile stretch of Pacific coastline in North San Diego. With its mild, Mediterranean climate and relatively low population (only 103,000 residents), Carlsbad offers the charm of a European town with the conveniences of a large city. From street fairs to clean, uncrowded beaches to fun, family destinations like Legoland, this area has something for everyone. There are also uncrowded beaches for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing, as well as beautiful lagoons for fishing, bird-watching, and nature hikes.

CARMEL VALLEY

This wealthy, master-planned coastal community in the northwestern corner of San Diego is composed of commercial offices, residential units, hotels, retail stores, and restaurants. The Carmel Valley name comes from the community’s location—in a wide valley immediately to the north of Carmel Mountain, which is a minor feature at the intersection of I-5 and SR-56. The area, positioned roughly half-way up the San Diego County coastline, offers convenient access to almost everything. RANCHO SANTA FE

Rancho Santa Fe – or “The Ranch,” as it’s known locally – grew out of gentleman-farmer estates, setting the stage for the California community to blossom. Throughout the 20th century, a long line of notable persons left indelible marks on The Ranch. One is Lilian Rice – designer and master architect of the “Village” Civic Center. Another, L.G. Sinnard, planned, constructed, and standardized the rural infrastructure. Former Senator Colonel Ed Fletcher undertook construction of the Lake Hodges Dam. Today, Rancho Santa Fe is a vibrant community, rich in architecture, California culture, and history.
